Can Watermelon Elicit Negative Behaviors?
A friend once told me that her husband could not eat melon unless it was freshly sliced since melon starts to ferment as soon as the core has been sliced into. I have utilized this information to manage my son with respects to fruit, but watermelon is in a class on its own.
Why would watermelon elicit behavioral outbursts, bouts of depression, and other odd behaviors? Watermelon sits on the ground while maturing to a full-grown melon. If the soil is not organic then possibly the watermelon will absorb some of the chemical that are present in the soil.

As a family, this year we have experienced 3 major outbursts after consumption of non-organic watermelon, and particularly very ripe melon. We have noticed that if the melon is not crisp and fresh that it would elicit horrible outbursts that transgress into a depression.

We have managed these situations in three methods: supporting our child while his body processes the offending food; providing an alternative food or milk to help overcome the bad food; providing ½ Sudafed (decongestant)*.
We look forward to having ResearchMama provide a research article to help us understand the effects of ripe watermelon.
